The rank distribution and percentage of players by tier in Tekken 7. Find out your place in the current season and how the point system works. Only PC data.
Source of the data
BANDAI NAMCO doesn’t provide an API to acquire info such as the rank distribution of the playerbase, so all the data displayed in this article has been gathered manually.
The data is based on the ranked leaderboards of each character, which are available in-game.
The stats shared on this page might be a bit skewed because they are averages. The leaderboards do not provide info on the entire playerbase, still they are the most accurate source at our disposal.
All the data comes from the PC leaderboards, so the tables do not contain info on the player distribution on consoles, but probably it is quite similar.
The data won’t be updated monthly - but only once per season - so you might find fresher data during Season 4.

We have data from two seasons, so we can finally have a proper look at the rank inflation.
The percentage of players at each rank from Vanquisher to Tekken God Prime increased, while it reduced from Initiate to Usurper as the lower ranks moved from the top 37.1% to 46.7%.
From Season 2 to 3, the inflation is between 0 to 3 ranks overall, so most players are placed 1-2 ranks higher than before. For example, the average player on PC moved two ranks higher, from Warrior to Juggernaut.
In any ranked system, there are three possible causes of inflation:
Inflation generated by new players, which increases the number of players at certain ranks.
Inflation caused by the point system as there are more points into circulation.
Natural inflation, which takes place when the players get more skilled over time.
Usually, new players don’t influence the higher ranks, so we can cross out the first potential cause.
From Fujin upwards, the old Season 1 point system is still used (wins and losses are worth the same - more info in the “point system” section), and there is inflation also at the highest ranks: the percentage of players at Tekken God Prime doubled.
In conclusion, while the new point system may have had an impact on the overall rank inflation, I believe that it is mostly provoked by the player base refining their skills during the past year.
Top percentage of players
Below, a cumulative chart indicating the top percentage of players. For example, as a Mighty Ruler you are in the top 15% of the player base.

Do not forget that we are talking about average statistics, so the data might not be completely accurate and could be slightly biased toward the higher ranks. More info on how the data has been gathered in the “source” section.

A summary of the data
According to these statistics, the average player on PC is a Warrior as this rank goes from the top 52% to 45%. Reaching Genbu is already a great accomplishment because it means you are among the 20% best players in the game.
Just a tiny portion of the playerbase reached the top ranks. Fujin is equal to the top 5%, while Emperor and above is a very restricted group containing about 1.5% of the players.
We can find a half of the players among the first eight ranks. This matchmaking area is probably composed of new and casual players, and even inactive accounts, thus some players refer to it as “green hell”.

Tekken 7 Ranked Play is based on a Point System, so you earn and lose points by winning and losing matches.
In Season 1, progressing your rank while facing players of equal skills was very difficult because a victory would reward as many points as the ones lost with a defeat. You often ended not increasing your rank at all unless you defeated the great majority of the opponents.
BANDAI NAMCO decided to overhaul the Point System in Season 2.
In Season 2, the point balance shifts in your favor when the ranks are equal, and obviously also when fighting someone with a higher rank. In this new system, players who are dedicated to the game will be able to rank up even with just a 50% win rate against adversaries of equal rank, albeit rather slowly.
Moreover, the new system also discourages farming lower ranked players for easy points because now losing against them will take away a lot more points than a win would award.
Points required to rank up
The developers did not provide exact info on the amount of points we can earn or lose in a game, but starting from Season 2 they introduced a progression bar at the end of each match showing how many points we gained and how much more we require to achieve the next rank (or to be demoted if we are losing).
Steam user TagMaster gathered and shared info on the points required to reach a certain rank, and on how many points we win/lose when facing an opponent of equal, higher, or lower rank. You can find everything in the image below.
Note that the Point System stats are not official, so they might not be totally accurate. They are based on data acquired via personal experience and by observing online streamers.
Pros and cons of the new system
The old system required many victories to improve your rank, while the new one helps to progress at a faster rate and it is no longer that punishing: you can rank up as long as you are able to maintain a 1:1 win/loss ratio because victories grant more points than the ones you lose.
Some players do not love the current system because they claim it is not as skill-based as before, but you must not forget that if you do not belong to a certain rank, the veterans in that matchmaking area will defeat you, and eventually you will stop advancing and will be demoted to the previous rank.
